HYMN OF PRAISE

GREETING
      The Lord be with you
        And also with you

SENTENCE and PRAYER
Return to the Lord, God of all mercies,
for a feast of love has been prepared for his own.
I will bless the Lord at all times.
His praise shall be continually in my mouth.

O taste and see the goodness of the Lord.
Happy are they who take refuge in God.
O magnify the Lord with me,
And let us exalt God's name together.

Kneel.........
THE CONFESSION
My brothers and sisters, Christ shows us his love by becoming a humble servant. Let us draw near to God and confess our sin in the truth of his Spirit.

Merciful God, we have not loved you with all our heart, mind, strength and soul
      Lord have mercy
          Lord have mercy
We have not loved our neighbours as you have taught us.
      Christ have mercy
          Christ have mercy
We have not fully received the saving grace of your word and life.
      Lord have mercy
          Lord have mercy.

May God have mercy upon you, forgive and heal you by his steadfast love made known to us by the passion, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ our Lord.

      Most merciful God,
We your church confess that often our spirit has not been that of Christ.
Where we have failed to love one another as he loves us
Where we have pledged loyalty to him with our lips
and then betrayed, deserted, or denied him.
      Forgive us, we pray, and by your Spirit make us faithful in every trial;
Through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen

Who is in a position to condemn? Only Christ. But Christ suffered and died for us, was raised from the dead and ascended on high for us, and continues to intercede for us. Believe the good news: In the name of Jesus Christ, your sins are forgiven!

In the name of Jesus Christ, we are forgiven!
          Thanks be to God. Amen.

THE SERMON
Maundy Thursday gains its name from the Old French mande which comes from the Latin mandatum novum "a new commandment", John 13:34. We focus on the self sacrificial love of Christ and encourage one another to love as Christ loves.

[FOOT WASHING]
Where it is the custom of the church, a foot washing ceremony takes place at this point in the service. The chief minister washes the feet of twelve church members. The service is usually performed at the chancel steps.

Kneel............
PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE

THE LORD'S PRAYER
Jesus Christ invites us to be guests at his table. We accept and come humbly, trusting in his generous love.

Stand............
THE GREETING OF PEACE
The Lord Jesus after he had supped with his disciples and washed their feet, said to them, "I have given you an example, that you should do as I have done."

        "Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you;
peace which the world cannot give, I give to you."

"Love one another, as I have loved you"
The peace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all.

        And also with you
